BuzzFeed News & The Intercept Join Forces to Create Northside Report, a New Programming Track at Northside Festival

NEW YORK, NY — MAY 1, 2017 — Northside Festival is pleased to announce a new track within Northside Innovation, the first-ever Northside Report, a groundbreaking and news-making event created in collaboration with The Intercept, a publication of First Look Media, and BuzzFeed News. On June 8 and 9 the inaugural event, “You Are Fake News”: Truth, Lies, and Politics in the Age of Trump, will take place at the William Vale Hotel in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, focused on the role of the media and the new rules of journalism in 2017.

Northside Report’s lineup will feature newsmakers and entertainers including The Intercept’s Jeremy Scahill, Betsy Reed, and Mehdi Hasan, BuzzFeed News’ Ben Smith and Shani Hilton, Mayor Bill de Blasio, Huffington Post Editor-in-Chief Lydia Polgreen, Recode Executive Editor Kara Swisher, Co-Founder of People For Bernie and Creator of #FeelTheBern Winnie Wong, First Look Media’s Anna Holmes and more.

Programming for the two-day event will range from conversations about Feminism in the Age of Trump to Surveillance, Extremism and Immigration in the Trump Era to The Business of News In the Age of Facebook. There will also be live musical performances and live tapings of BuzzFeed News’ See Something, Say Something podcast with host Ahmed Ali Akbar and the Intercepted podcast with host Jeremy Scahill. Programing will be live streamed via Facebook Live.

Northside Festival will take place in Williamsburg, Brooklyn from June 7-11. Now in its 9th year, Northside will again bring together leaders in innovation, content, music and art from all over the world for one of the most anticipated creative events of the year. This year, Northside will host headlining performances from Miguel, Dirty Projectors, Kamasi Washington and Thursday, and feature such innovative speakers as Saturday Night Live’s Sasheer Zamata, The FADER’s Andy Cohn and New York Times Op-Doc producer Kathleen Lingo.

Admission to Northside Report will be granted to Northside Innovation and Premium badge holders. Innovation badges are still at Early Bird pricing for $499 with access to 150+ speakers; and Premium badges are also available for $549 and provide access to all events at the festival.
