Northside Film Announces First Wave of Premieres

Northside has a long partnership with film in Brooklyn and is proud to announce the first of a number of New York premieres as part of its fifth annual film festival.

IFP presents the NY Premiere of Homemakers, from director Colin Healey, an alum of the 2013 Independent Filmmaker Lab. The film follows rootless and reckless musician Irene McCabey as she arrives in Pittsburgh to claim her inheritance: her grandfather’s crumbling three-story row house. With help from an estranged cousin, Irene must overcome her destructive impulses to transform the forgotten family house into a home worth taking care of.

Factory 25 will present a twofer of premieres: the NY Premiere of Whiffed Out, a short film directed by Jason Giampietro where an abandoned bicycle in a narrow hallway ruins an anxious New Yorker’s summer.

Factory 25 will then present the Brooklyn Premiere of Summer Of Blood from director Onur Tukel, the latter fresh off its NY Premiere at Tribeca. Starring “Girls” actor (and 2013 Northside DIY Film Competition juror) Alex Karpovsky and “White Reindeer” breakout Anna Margaret Hollyman, Summer of Blood centers on a man (director Onur Tukel) who’s unlucky in love and whose confidence is reinvigorated after getting bitten by a vampire.

Additional films include a special 35 mm screening of Věra Chytilová’s Daisies, presented by Reverse Shot and Janus films; and When I Walkdirector Jason de Silva’s life-affirming documentary, presented by POV.

Northside Film Badges can be purchased for $25 here.
